THIS TITLE IS FORTHCOMING
Lord Ronald Gower was a pinwheel of upperclass Victorian society, including its bohemia. At the age of 38, he published My Reminiscences, and later Old Diaries: 1881-1901. Both were extremely well-received.
However his original diaries on which these were based, amounting to 48 volumes, have remained neglected. A privately-funded crowd transcription effort in 2025 saw the diaries for 1867 and 1868 fully transcribed, and those for 1901 and 1902 partially.
The first of these, the 1867 diary, will soon be published by Alchemie Academia in a fully-annotated edition.
As a record of Gower’s youth the volume contains little of interest for the general reader, but is being brought to print for the benefit of scholars. An additional hope is that it may provide a training model of Gower’s handwriting to enable future A.I. transcription.
Readers with a general interest in Lord Ronald Gower will be better served with his own two biographical works, which are in the public domain, but most especially volume two of the trilogy A Secret Between Gentlemen, which contains the first full and frank account of his extraordinary life.
